How Shiny Creations Saved the Day.

One of the many reasons I started Shiny Creations was because I loved making personal gifts for the people I loved. That soon leaked into making personal gifts for strangers. It’s not just the simple act of making a fine craft by hand that I enjoy, but also in the agonising, tiny details that make a product truly personalised. I will often spend days working on a product until it is perfect. Though yesterday I took on a challenge that had me wondering if I had been dropped on my head as a child and everyone just forgot to tell me. Yesterday morning I received a panicked phone call; a …

Great Graduation gifts with a personal touch

Celebrating a loved one passing that big exam or seeing them graduate and gain that degree can be fantastic! Trying to find them a less corny gift to tell them how proud you are can be less fantastic. When my little brother graduated from university last year I was surprised to find that all that was on offer in ways of gifts for graduates were cheap, plastic ‘token’ presents, or nothing at all. Seeing your little brother graduate is a huge deal, shouldn’t his present reflect that? So this year, with my brother, Paul’s help, I have designed a few personalised gifts that can be tailored made to be just …

The journey of designing to selling.

Every collection starts from a tiny idea that, with a bit of pulling and stretching develops into a full scale project. Our jewellery and gifts can be inspired by anything from a great song on the radio, to the doughnut I had for lunch. As soon as I have even the hint of an idea, I hit the books, (sketch books that is.) I do a rough doodle of the initial idea and come up with relevant words which I then google and search for on Pinterest. This brings forward more images that inspire more ideas. If I can find a running theme connecting the majority of my favourite …

Time and Effort

Anyone interested in turning their craft hobby into a legitimate business will find that two words will come to own them- Time and Effort. When I first set out to sell my little hand-made trinkets and doodles, I was very aware that there may come a day when I regretted turning the pass time that I loved into my 9 to 10 job. Because that is the reality of working for yourself, being your own boss and selling products that you have made and advertised. You are up until gone 12 at night making products and then up at 6 ready to set up for your next craft fair. After …
